Together, we face an upcoming national election and it's crucial to build communities that are welcoming and who celebrate the diversities across our county. The work of promoting equity and fighting discrimination is not about dividing us; it is about bringing us together.

Concerns at Providence Milwaukie Hospital
This issue extends beyond Milwaukie and our region. Our healthcare, social service, and public safety systems nationwide are facing significant strain. It is essential that our entire system is equipped to deal with situations of substance use and/or behavioral health crises with the appropriate level of care and compassion. Redirection or refusal of critical emergency services for any population is unacceptable.

Housing board member: Clackamas County reversal on transitional housing is a major setback
As an elected official who has publicly spoken in favor of such projects, I understand that investing in transitional housing is a complex issue with competing priorities. However, I firmly believe that providing stable housing is a fundamental right, and we have a moral obligation to address housing insecurity in our community.

Milwaukie appoints historic first Muslim member of City Council
Gamba agreed that the candidates were all deserving of appointment to council, and all three of the applicants could be counted as "folks who have been historically kept from participating," he said, citing their gender or ethnic backgrounds.
Hyzy had originally said that the Stavenjord would be "hitting the ground running" as a councilor with her experience in government, and Batey called Stavenjord a "powerhouse."
"Equity was embedded in each and every answer," Nicodemus said of Stavenjord. "She gave really good ideas to how we as a city, we as a council, can change things."
